Pop Culture

Meme

Beginning in the summer of 2017, Gold Peak Tea began spreading as an internet meme. It quickly picked up a group of "followers" who drank the tea obsessively in a nearly cult-like way. The followers story of the obsession's origins was published as follows:

It was a balmy summer evening in Norman, Oklahoma. Following a long and strenuous competition, the bois found themselves thoroughly famished and on the precipice of collapse. Suddenly, the bois discerned a heavenly aura emanating from the end of the tenebrous hallways of the hotel. Upon investigation, the bois discovered the aura was originating from a lavish vending machine. As they gazed into the towering vestibule, amid the insipid beverage mediocrities the bois spotted an extraordinary bottle -- it was unlike any to have ever graced their eyes. It exuded a golden glow, that was perfectly complemented by the opulent deep blues of the Gold Peak® labelling. Notwithstanding its glamorous appearance, the sumptuous beverage was offered at an outstandingly opportune price of two dollars. Without hesitation, the bois procured a bottle and promptly twisted off the crowing integument. The sonorous timbre of the crack echoed throughout the hallways. It produced the most heavenly sound the bois ear's had ever hearkened. The bois bore aloft the ravishing receptacle to their mouths, salivating in anticipation of their imminent gratification. Upon sipping the golden nectar, the bois found themselves brought back home. Its sweetness was like that of music, and the deep flavors in the tea unparalleled by all. In a moment of great revelation, the bois realized this great endowment upon mankind must be known to all as the "Cold One." Soon, the bois began to speculate why this fructiferous discovery had not been made earlier. They found themselves struck by harrowing dread that Cold Ones would be in short supply back home. The bois frantically amassed a boundless repository of Cold Ones to be transported back to the unenlightened masses at home. Upon returning with their vast stockpile, the bois discovered that their concerns were alleviated by a blessing, every corner of the world was stocked to the brim with fresh Colds Ones (except for the miscreant hell-fires of La Guardia airport). As the Cold Ones culture spread, derivatives of ever-expanding uniqueness were being discovered at an astounding rate: high-magnitude, peach, green tea and multifarious others. The necessity of the Cold Ones soon grew so intense, whereupon an assemblage of bois could not convene in absence of the indispensable Cold Ones. As the golden nectar flowed across the world, the mellifluous tones of their cracks could be heard by all, with each subsequent crack ushering in another stroke of euphoria for mankind. To this day, the Cold Ones continue to ameliorate the sublunary poignancy of mankind, forever imbuing the world with salubrious sanguinity with a taste that brings you home.(TM)
